| Highlighting a vast collection of flowering crabapple trees, the serene setting introduces visitors to a variety of ever-changing formal and ornamental plants and flower gardens throughout its 50 acres. A paved pathway leads visitors on a scenic stroll along the banks of William J. Parker Lake, which supports fish, wildlife, aquatic plants, and migrating birds, as well as the resident swans. |

A highlight of the
arboretum is the vast collection of crabapple trees featuring over 40
varieties. The May blooms of these beauties signal the beginning of a
new season and are the focus of photographers. |
| Created in 1984, the arboretum was named in honor of Dr. James H. McBride, the first Dean of Firelands College. Visitors to the area will find new and exciting changes yearly as expansion is made possible with monetary and in-kind grants from foundations, organizations and the contributions of individuals. The arboretum also provides an educational setting for horticultural students and other interested individuals who may volunteer their time and energies into an area of interest. |
